Shrove Tuesday, the Pancake Feast - TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16 – 5:30 in the Parish Hall. There is no charge, but “Chez Piggy” will be accepting donations to benefit. Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the ritual of shriving, when the faithful confessed their sins to the local priest and received forgiveness before the Lenten season began. For the Christian church Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration, the last chance to feast before the austerity of the 40 days of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Traditionally, all the foods that are forbidden during Lent – meat, eggs, fat and milk – are eaten up on Shrove Tuesday. So we have no choice but to make Pancakes.
ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17 - marks the first day, or the start of the season of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are not included in the count). During Ash Wednesday, you are invited to attend one of the homily and the imposition of ashes services at 7:00 a.m., Noon, or 7:00 p.m.
Lenten Studies Program - During Lent we will gather for worship at 6:00 PM, beginning February 24, followed by a supper and a study program, “Journey to Easter.” We will provide a simple supper of soup, salad, and bread. We need individuals to sign up to provide soup, salad, or bread each night. A signup sheet will be in the Narthex, and you may also call the church office to offer your help. Please set aside time to join us on Wednesday evenings, as part of your discipline for the observance of a Holy Lent.
